Anne Bronte

My sophomore year of college I took a British Lit course. We were to do an intense study on an author that the prof assigned to us. I was given Anne Bronte. I knew nothing of her except for the fact that her sisters are famous for their works. So I started reading all of her work. I became obsessed. Although Emily's poetry is gothic and romantic, I could not stop reading Anne's poetry of her love for the Lord.

A Prayer

My God (oh, let me call Thee mine,
Weak, wretched sinner though I be),
My trembling soul would fain be Thine;
My feeble faith still clings to Thee.

Not only for the Past I grieve,
The Future fills me with dismay;
Unless Thou hasten to relieve,
Thy suppliant is a castaway.

I cannot say my faith is strong,
I dare not hope my love is great;
But strength and love to Thee belong;
Oh, do not leave me desolate!

I know I owe my all to Thee;
Oh, TAKE the heart I cannot give!
Do Thou my strength--my Saviour be,
And MAKE me to Thy glory live.
Not only is her poetry beautiful, I have thoroughly enjoyed The Tenant of Wildfell Hall. Before reading the actual novel, Anne wrote a preface about why she wrote what she wrote. She will forever be one of my most favorite people in history. So progressive and passionate of The Truth!
"My object in writing the following pages was not simply to amuse the Reader; neither was it to gratify my own taste; not yet to ingratiate myself with the Press and the Public; I wished to tell the truth, for truth always conveys its own moral to those who are able to receive it. But as the priceless treasure too frequently hides at the bottom of a well, it needs some courage to dive for it, especially as he that does so will be likely to insure more scorn and obloquy for the mud and water into which he has ventured to plunge, than thanks for the jewel he procures; as, in like manner, she who undertakes the cleansing of a careless bachelor's apartment will be liable to more abuse for the dust she raises than commendation for the clearance she effects. Let it not be imagined. however, that I consider myself competent to reform the errors and abuses of society, but only that I would fain contribute my humble quota towards so good an aim; and if I can gain the public ear at all, I would rather whisper a few wholesome truths therein than much soft nonsense."

I love making mix CD's for my friends. I am not sure why but music reaches parts of my soul that nothing else can. I find that Coldplay and Florence and the machine minister to me more than any "christian" music. Sometimes when I am feeling anxious I listen to Miles Davis.
Recently I purchased the soundtrack for BRAVE, the new disney movie. It will not disappoint. Get it.

Northanger Abbey

I love this book. I love this movie. No other book explains my imagination like this one. Catherine Moreland is a young woman who reads too much and her over imagination gets the best of her.

But when a young lady is to be a heroine, the perverseness of forty surrounding families cannot prevent her. Something must and will happen to throw a hero in her way."

"Thank you; for now we shall soon be acquainted, as I am authorized to tease you on this subject whenever we meet, and nothing in the world advances intimacy so much."

"Oh! I am delighted with the book! I should like to spend my whole life in reading it. I assure you, if it had not been to meet you, I would not have come away from it for all the world."

"The person, be it a gentleman or a lady, who has not pleasure in a good novel, must be intolerably stupid."

"The visions of romance were over. Catherine was completely awakened. Henry's address, short as it had been, had more thoroughly opened her eyes to the extravagance of her late fancies than all their several disappointments had done. Most grievously was she humbled. Most bitterly did she cry [....] Her folly, which now seemed even criminal, was all exposed to him."

Us Against the World
Coldplay Lyrics

Oh morning come bursting, the clouds, Amen.
Lift off this blindfold, let me see again
And bring back the water, let your ships roll in.
In my heart she left a hole

The tightrope that I'm walking just sways and ties
The devil as he's talking with those angel's eyes
And I just want to be there when the lightning strikes
And the saints go marching in

And sing slow-ow-ow-ow it down

Through chaos as it swirls
It's us against the world

Like a river to a raindrop, I lost a friend
My drunken as a Daniel in a lion's den
And tonight I know it all has to begin again
So whatever you do, don't let go

And if we could float away
Fly up to the surface and just start again
And lift off before trouble
Just erodes us in the rain (x3)

Brings Tears to My Eyes Every Time I Hear It

He Lives in You
lyrics from Lion King on Broadway.

Ubukhosi bo khokho [Throne of the ancestors]
We ndodana ye sizwe sonke [Oh, son of the nation)]

Wait
There's no mountain too great
Hear the words and have faith
Have faith

Hela hey mamela [Hey, listen]

(Chorus)
He lives in you
He lives in me
He watches over
Everything we see
Into the water
Into the truth
In your reflection
He lives in you

Brandi Carlile

My sister and I have a sweet relationship. I can see us still being best friends when we are 80 years old. Grumpy and mean to everyone. :)
Though this song does not necessarily symbolize our relationship...it will always make me think of her. And I ALWAYS tear up when I hear it. I love you sissy.

The Story lyrics
Songwriters: Phillip John Hanseroth

All of these lines across my face
Tell you the story of who I am
So many stories of where I've been
And how I got to where I am

But these stories don't mean anything
When you've got no one to tell them to
It's true, I was made for you

I climbed across the mountaintops
Travel across the ocean blue
I cross over lines and I broke all the rules
And baby I broke them all for you

Oh because even when I was flat broke
You made me feel like a million bucks
You do, I was made for you

You see the smile that's on my mouth
It's hiding the words that don't come out
All of the friends who think that I'm blessed
They don't know I'm in this mess

No they don't know who I really am
And they don't know what I've been through
Like you do, and I was made for you

All of these lines across my face
Tell you the story of who I am
So many stories of where I've been
And how I got to where I am

Oh but these stories don't mean anything
When you've got no one to tell them to
It's true, I was made for you
Oh yeah, and it's true that I was made for you

Youth

This morning I was reading my bible and I came across a verse in Jeremiah.

“Ah Lord God! Behold, I do not know how to speak, for I am only a youth.”

But the Lord said to me,

“Do not say, ‘I am only a youth’; for to all to whom I send you, you shall go, and whatever I command you, you shall speak. Do not be afraid of them, for I am with you to deliver you, declares the Lord”

Then the Lord put out his hand and touched my mouth.

Jeremiah 1: 5-9

As I sit and read this I cannot help but think of my Dad’s youth group over in Northern Ireland right now. When I went there when I was in high school I felt so small. So insignificant. “What can I do? I’m so young. So vile. So ignorant.” But the Lord moved me that week. And the spirit moved the people there.

Youth. Even though you are young and feel like you have no wisdom nor answers…you have Christ in you. And he will give you the words of His heart. You do not need to worry. Just have the boldness to speak and to love and watch HIM WORK!

127 hours

I refused to see this movie because I am highly constraphobic and the thought of me being stuck somewhere for days makes me go into panic mode.

But my friends decided that it would be a good idea and they told me the movie was well done...so I watched it.

Although I will probably never see that movie again I thought it was amazing! I was so impressed with the directing and the music...and even through the graphic scenes.. I was left feeling so proud of him for wanting to live that much. Rent this movie...close your eyes if you do not like graphic bloody scenes but it is pretty phenominal what man will do to stay alive.

Dried Up

I was reading the Crucifiction story as I try to do every Easter and I came up on a verse that I do not quite remember.

I remember Jesus saying, "forgive them for they know not what they do" and "today you will meet me in paradise" but I do not remember this sentence.

After the cross was given to Simon to carry...
"A Large number of people followed him, including women who mourned and wailed for him. Jesus turned and said to them, "Daughters of Jerusalem, do not weep for me; weep for youselves and for your children. For the time will come when you will say, 'Blessed are the childless women, the wombs that never bored and the breasts that never nursed!' Then they will say to the mountains, 'Fall on us' and to the hills, 'Cover us!' "
FOR IF PEOPLE DO THESE THINGS WHEN THE TREE IS GREEN, WHAT WILL HAPPEN WHEN IT IS DRY?"

The son of God was walking among them and performing miracles and people still did not believe. Everyday I walk around looking at God's marvilous work and my amazing blessings and I still do not believe. What will happen to me when something horrible happens? Will I dry up? Or take shelter in His Roots? We shall see...Lord help my unbelief.

I wish...

I have this beautiful friend. She is one of the most amazing people I know. Loves her friends. Loves to travel and experience new things. Generous. Kind...
Yet horrible things surround her. Her mother is dying of cancer and her siblings are not handling it very well. So of course...my amazing friend has to be the one holding everything together.

If only I knew how to help...how to be more than just a prayer warrior for her. I wish I had the money to take her to Greece and forget all her troubles. I wish I had the time to go to her house and clean and organize her rooms. I wish I had the strength to confront her family who are being so burdensome.

But alas, all I can do is pray. And i intend to pray for this woman for the rest of my life. Because the Lord shows himself through her whenever I am with her and provides me with comfort whenever I am in need.

So friends...be praying for this Proverbs 31 woman. Especially Today!

The Last Station

I have seen the poster and DVD for this movie for over a month and always wanted to see it. Thankfully it was on Netflix and I did not have to pay to see it.
It was not a bad movie by any means...I just knew the ending already. :)
But if you love History and Literature then you will love this movie.
