Sick Weekend

This past weekend I got a bad cold and so I took it easy. I drank lots of tea. I also went and rented three movies. I wanted to watch movies that are not very popular...that I knew would have incredible cinematography and soundtracks...and these three movies embodied all of the above.
1.Silk
2.Once
3.Lars and the Real girl
Read below for pictures and descriptions.

Silk

A young man must travel to Japan in secret to trade for France with a small village for silk eggs. While there he is seduced by the culture and the Leaders Daughter. Over the years he has to travel back and forth and everytime he leaves Japan he leaves a peice of himself...and his wife notices. She becomes frustrated that she is not what he wants her to be...

In the end, his last voyage to Japan, ends up costing him more than he can afford.
This movie shows the beautiful contrast between the Springtime of France and the harsh winters of Japan....the heart of his wife verses the heart of the Japanese woman...intreguing and seductive.

Once

This modern day musical is set in Dublin. A musician is playing his music out in the streets when a young woman approaches him and tells him that his music is beautiful. The relationship developes and they start a band...they end up falling for eachother but life gets in the way.

I love musicals. I love romantic comedies. I love movies with beautiful scenery and soundtracks...and This movie caters to all of those needs!

Lars and The Real Girl

'Lars And The Real Girl' is about a young man who is disillusioned into thinking that the woman that he created on the internet is real. With a mother who died giving birth to him, an absent father, and a brother who acted like everything was fine...Lars never really knew what love was...or who he was. So he created a woman that he thought would fulfill him...

His family take him to a doctor who believes that he is not mental, just trying to find love...in an unorthadox way. She helps him just by simply...listening.
This movie is a beautiful story of family and community. Instead of the family putting him into a mental hospital and the community outcasting him...they love him no matter what and take him and his New Girlfriend in.
One of my favorite lines is when Lars' gilfriend gets "deatly sick" a group of ladies from his church come over and start knitting and cooking for him. Lars sits with them and asks, "Do I need to be doing anything?" And one of the ladies answers...
"No, this is what we do when tragedy happens. We come over and we sit."
By having this fake woman, Lars finds out that he is loved by his family and friends and that he no longer has to pretend...because he now knows how to love.
