Cause Celeb

I just finished Helen Fielding's Cause Celeb, from the author who wrote Bridget Jones' Diaries. I have been reading Helen Fielding's work over the last year and have really enjoyed her books. But this book took the cake.

Young and insecure Rosie is working with celebrities in the publishing company and she falls in love with the "typical" celeb who tells he loves her and then the next day blames her for pressuring him into a relationship. She gets sick of his "wishy/washiness" and decides to go to Africa and work with refugees!

The chapters go back and forth between past (in shiny london) and present (in africa). The comparison between the celebrities with their marbel toilets and the african children with no muscle or fat who are dying in their mothers arms, is heart wrenching. It made me sit and cry over my pettiness and lack of desire to help those less furtunate.
