Black Swan

So this weekend a good friend and I went to go see Natalie Portman in Black Swan. I was blown away.
It is very hard to sit through a movie like this and not be enthralled.

The whole movie you are wondering what the heck is going on and what Natalie in imagining and what is actually happening.

Now...this movie is not for everyone. If you get squeamish during awkward sex scenes or you get scared when impossible things start happening...this movie may not be for you. But to me is was amazing to dive into someones head who, her whole life, had been obsessed with her body, her face, her complection.....her need to "be perfect".

Mila Kunis plays her opposite...in every way. And she is amazing as well.

Go see this. You will be amazed! But like I said...be open minded...and carefully chose who you see it with.

So I had sworn that I would not watch this movie because I heard that it was just about a whiney woman who needed to find herself through Travel...but I got in the travel mood and thought...what the heck.

My friends were not wrong though. Throughout the whole movie you are wondering why she is so miserable... though travel is wonderful and will show you so many things about yourself... she went about "finding herself" the wrong way.

If you want to find yourself...you don't need to meditate and sit in silence...why? Because all you do is sit and think about yourself. Why not get up...be thankful for what you have and go help people who do not have anything. You want to "find yourself"...go and be selfless and help the helpless! Serve! Love on those around you! Go play with orphans! Love on your husband! Love on your family! Go clean up a HWY! Go be a candy striper at a hospital or nursing home! Go deliver flowers to families in need!

When you serve...it forces you to think beyond yourself! And thus...you are no longer thinking about "me, myself, and I".

But I did like the end of the movie...when she selflessly asked for help for the medicine woman and opened herself up for love. The ending was great and so was the scenery. Can't get any better than Italy, India, and Bali!

My favorite poet is John Donne. From his ridiculously descriptive poems about his wife to his Holy Sonnets John Donne touches my heart.

In the Emma Thompson movie Wit, her character is a John Donne Literature Proffesor who gets Ovarian Cancer and gets treated with a New Cancer Treatment...it is one of the hardest movies to watch but it was so beautiful. I have put the ending link below...watch it...but beware. It will make you cry.

I've always particularly liked that poem. In the abstract. Now I find the image of my minute's last point, a little too, shall we say... pointed. I don't mean to complain but I am becoming very sick. Very sick. Ultimately sick, as it were. In everything I have done, I have been steadfast. Resolute. Some would say in the extreme. Now, as you can see, I am distinguishing myself in illness. I have survived eight treatments of Hexamethophosphacil and Vinplatin at the full dose, ladies and gentlemen. I have broken the record. I have become something of a celebrity. Kelekian and Jason are simply delighted. I think, they see celebrity status for themselves upon the appearance of the journal article, they will no doubt write about me. But I flatter myself. The article will not be about me, it will be about my ovaries. It will, be about my peritoneal cavity. Which, despite their best intentions, is now crawling with cancer. What we have come to think of as me is, in fact, just the specimen jar. Just the dust jacket. Just the white piece of paper... that bears the little black marks... A Good Year

One of my favorite movies is "A Good Year". It makes me want to go to France, eat cheese, drink wine and play chess. I love everything about the movie from the scenery to the lines...

I came across the book in the library the other day and so I checked it out. It sort of has a different and more complicated plot but it still leaves you with the same feeling...Adventure!

Max is a London broker who has to leave his wonderful life of glass and metal to his uncle Henry's estate in Frances...problems arise when the wine turns out to be undrinkable and unsellable. Or so it seems.

I went to the Library and ran into this novel that surprised me.

Three Middle Eastern women flee from their home and move to Ireland to open up a cafe and leave their old life behind.

Throughout the story of the three exotic women the author writes in recipes and it literally made my mouth water...
